Georgia has introduced electronic cards for citizen ID-s and temporary residence permits. The leading and implementing agency of the project was Public Services Development Agency of Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
The backbone of the system is Public Key Infrastructure, which issues public certificates which are written into eID cards in an automatic process. The eID cards can thus be used for various government and private services and can be used for following usecases
Digital authentication of a person in online services
Qualified digital signature on documents, emails, applications, etc.
Physical access control to premises for Government or private sector organizations
Automatic identification of a person via an ICAO compliant applet in the card.
NGT Group, together with its partner and leader of the field Primekey AB has deployed a PKI infrastructure and related HW/SW infrastructure in PSDA. The project consisted of the software, special hardware security modules, and professional services for planning, deployment and training together with consultation regarding CP/CPS documents.
